The week's best deals, by email

A short digest of the genuine discounts, not everything we find. No daily spam, no selling your address, one click to leave.

01 What to expect at this price

Cyber Monday is not simply Black Friday repeated. It skews towards online-only categories: smaller electronics, accessories, and anything that does not need a shelf in a physical store.

If something sold out on Friday, Monday is worth checking before assuming it is gone. Restocks are common, and the discount often survives the weekend.

02 What to check before you buy

  • Check the price historyA discount is measured against a list price the seller sets. CamelCamelCamel or Keepa will show what the item actually sold for over recent months.
  • Different categories than FridayMonday leans towards tech accessories and online-only goods. Large physical items usually peak on Friday.
  • Sort reviews by most recentA high average built years ago says nothing about the unit shipping today, especially where sellers swap suppliers.
  • Scan for a clippable couponA checkbox near the price that takes a further amount off at checkout. It stacks with the shown discount and is the most commonly missed saving on Amazon.

03A sane way to shop the week

Decide what you want before the sales start, not during them. The entire event is built to convert browsing into buying, and a list written in advance is the only real defence against spending more than you planned on things you did not want.

Set price alerts on the specific items rather than watching deal feeds. An alert tells you when your item drops. A feed tells you when anything drops, which is how people end up with three purchases they cannot justify.

Doorbusters and countdown timers are designed to remove thinking time. Genuine stock limits exist, but the timer on a listing usually resets. If a deal is real, it is still real after you have checked the price history.

Cyber Monday is not simply Black Friday again. It skews harder towards online-only categories: software, subscriptions, smaller electronics and accessories. If you missed something on Friday, Monday is worth a look before you assume it is gone.

04How Black Friday pricing actually works

The single most useful thing to know is that a large share of Black Friday discounts are measured against a list price the seller sets, not against what the item normally sells for. That is why a 60% banner in November can be a worse deal than a quiet 20% cut in March.

Prices also start moving weeks before the day itself. Amazon runs early deals through most of November, and the genuinely deep cuts on popular items often land in that window rather than on Friday. Waiting for the date is not a strategy.

Some categories move properly and some barely move at all. Last year's flagship electronics, large appliances and anything the manufacturer is clearing before a new model tend to see real cuts. Current-generation phones, popular consoles and staple household goods usually do not.

The check that takes ten seconds: paste the product URL into CamelCamelCamel or Keepa and look at the price line over the past year. If November's price sits near the bottom of that line, it is a real deal. If it matches what the item sold for in August, the discount is against a number nobody was paying.

05Before you buy: the boring checks that save money

Confirm who is actually selling. 'Ships from and sold by Amazon' or 'Fulfilled by Amazon' from an established seller gives you Amazon's returns process. A third-party seller shipping directly may have their own terms, and recovering money is slower.

Look for a clippable coupon under the price. It is a checkbox that takes a further amount off at checkout, it stacks with the discount already shown, and it is the single most commonly missed saving on the site.

Sort the reviews by most recent rather than reading the top ones. A four-and-a-half star average built three years ago tells you nothing about the unit shipping today, particularly in categories where sellers change suppliers between production runs.

06 Common questions

Is Cyber Monday better than Black Friday?

For smaller electronics, accessories and online-only categories, often yes. For large physical goods and appliances, Friday usually wins.

Are Cyber Monday deals real?

The same rule applies as Black Friday: the percentage is set against the seller's list price. Check the price history and compare against what the item sold for earlier in the year.

What should I buy on Cyber Monday?

Tech accessories, headphones, smart home devices and anything you already wanted that happens to fall. Buying from a list written in advance beats browsing the sale.
