01 What to expect at this price
Christmas tree toppers get searched most in late November, right as trees go up. The two things people get wrong are weight and size.
We picked stars, angels and bow toppers with a real Amazon discount and noted how each attaches and whether it lights up.
02 What to check before you buy
- Mind the weightHeavy toppers tip the top branch. Spiral bases grip better.
- Measure firstMantels, doors, trees and tables come in every size. Check the listed dimensions against yours before ordering.
- Check the delivery dateHoliday decor sells out and ships slower from mid-November. The date under the price is the one that matters.
- Check the price historyA discount is measured against a list price the seller sets. CamelCamelCamel or Keepa will show what the item actually sold for over recent months.
03Getting the tree topper right
Weight is the most common problem. Heavy metal stars tip the top branch over, so check the topper's weight against your tree, or pick one with a spiral base that grips the trunk.
Match the size to the tree. A topper around 8 to 12 inches suits most 6 to 7.5 foot trees; anything larger needs a big tree to look right.
Lighted toppers need power at the very top of the tree. Battery or USB toppers avoid running another cable up the middle.
04Before you buy: the boring checks that save money
Confirm who is actually selling. 'Ships from and sold by Amazon' or 'Fulfilled by Amazon' from an established seller gives you Amazon's returns process. A third-party seller shipping directly may have their own terms, and recovering money is slower.
Look for a clippable coupon under the price. It is a checkbox that takes a further amount off at checkout, it stacks with the discount already shown, and it is the single most commonly missed saving on the site.
Sort the reviews by most recent rather than reading the top ones. A four-and-a-half star average built three years ago tells you nothing about the unit shipping today, particularly in categories where sellers change suppliers between production runs.
05 Common questions
What size tree topper do I need?
About 8 to 12 inches for most 6 to 7.5 foot trees.
How do you keep a tree topper straight?
Use a spiral base or tie a dowel to the top stem for support.
Are lighted tree toppers worth it?
Yes if they run on battery or USB, so there is no extra cable up the tree.
